Top Ten Books For Christmas No 2

A.F. Harrold’s Pocket Book of Pocket Poems, illustrated by Jack Viant (Bloomsbury)

I just love witty, funny, odd, thoughtful and clever poems that are SHORT; although I often feel sorry for them as they’re over so quickly. They tend not to get the scrutiny that longer poems do. On the other hand, they are read over and over again. To fill a book with these poems is genius. And designed to fit in your pocket, too. Teachers should carry it around at all times. Favourites? I like the slightly surreal ones. The two pet bricks – only one of which can do tricks. And the bee that makes Marmite. I like the useful thematic index too. As well as a pocket it would also fit snuggly into a Christmas stocking.
