Polka Dot Poems

Polka Dot Poems by Zaro Weil (ZaZa Kids Books/Troika)

I’ve not yet met a child who wasn’t at some point in their growing up fascinated by animals. This book is, therefore, going to appeal to all children. It’s a lot more than a collection of poems. The poems themselves are lovely – words used sparingly that say an awful lot in just a few lines; a great example of the poet’s art of encapsulating a large feeling in a small sentence in the ancient tradition of haiku. But the information the poems impart is almost as important as the words. Also see the end of the book for even more fascinating facts about animals weird and wonderful. The colour illustrations by Lucy Wynne are beautiful.
