It’s not immediately obvious which age group these great poems are aimed at. Some are for small kids, yes, but others could be older kids, younger adults and don’t forget your granny likes poems too. Mandy Coe doesn’t condescend to the youngest; they get the same effort as every other reader. The conundrums and puzzles simply say, you can work this out. The themes are often about earth, the city and, naturally, about growing up. The illustrations by the author are a delight too. There’s more than a hint of Maurice Sendak  to her dragons and beasties. Which is no bad thing.
