True Value

by Anne aged 11

You can’t stare at it for too long.
The blinding beauty of jewels,
Yet it’s just a facade to hide the true horror

The greed of the men who want gold
Craving for endless pieces
Yet gold has small value

Why would you want that?
If you could have something fresher and truer

The apples glistening in the morning sun,
Shining like rubies

The azure blue lakes spilling enchanted water,
Clear as crystal

Don’t go yearning for what you can’t have.
