The Figure Skater

by Laiba Sohail aged 14

Gracefully gliding across the endless stretch of white,
Her heart beats faster in the spotlight.
Millions of eyes stare down at the elegant skater,
She’s a master of her craft, an inventive creator.

Smiling radiantly, she flips and loops,
As the dazzled, bewildered crowd cheers and whoops.
She jumps highly and her landings are clean,
A champion skater she is, a true ice queen.

She skates with poise, her movements are art,
A true princess, she steals their heart.
Her spirals are long, her edges as sharp as a blade,
The rays of light reflect in her eyes, the colour of jade.

She fearlessly moves into the Biellman spin,
By now, the entire crowd wants her to win.
Her brunette hair curls, falling out of her bun,
One last twizzle turn and the dancer is done.
