My Fallen Love

by Abigail aged 11

Something else to think about,
My love will keep you safe.
Represent what we’re about,
My love will keep you safe.

Capture the emotion,
My love will keep you safe.
Through all of the commotion,
My love will keep you safe.

Oh my love, I worry,
That my love shan’t keep you safe.
And you will fall dead,
And my love wasn’t strong enough.

We had good times,
My love I miss.
For the enemy crimes,
I shall mourn in my sadness.

I plant my poppy,
Oh love I miss.
The neighbours copy,
Oh love I miss.

You fell, shot dead,
Oh my love I miss you so.
A bullet to the head,
Oh my love I miss you so.

The rifle they had,
Oh love, why you?
You were dead in one shot,
Oh love, why you?

You were killed, right there,
Oh my love I miss you so.
I remember, I swear,
Oh my love I miss so.

The battle went on,
Oh my love I miss you so.
After you were gone,
My love I miss so.

Your friends and I,
Oh my love I miss you so.
We went on without you,
Oh my love I miss you so.

Along the river,
Oh my love.
You floated away, shot dead,
Oh my love.

Once the war ended,
Oh my fallen love.
All fell silent,
And mourned for you.

Oh my love,
Why did they shoot you?
If only you were here with me,
Then I’d be safe with you.

The ghastly beasts,
They shot you, my love.
I will remember you,
Oh my fallen love.
