A is Amazing

Anthology edited by Wendy Cooling (Frances Lincoln)

If you start at the back of this book you will find an impressive roll-call of poets, established and newer, and a little bit about each of them. Which I find interesting. Among the many poets, from different parts of the world, Carol Ann Duffy rubs shoulders with Emily Dickinson from the past and Jan Dean and Wendy Cope – both very much of today. While Robert Louis Stevenson, John Keats, ee cummings and Carl Sandberg share its pages with Benjamin Zephaniah, Michael Rosen, James Carter and Trevor Harvey. The poems are all about feelings – and there’s one for every letter of the alphabet from Amazing to Zestful and fiZZy. They cover many different moods. Fairly traditional illustrations by Piet Grobler make this a colourful collection.
