Wonderland: Alice in Poetry

Wonderland: Alice in Poetry. Compiled by Michaela Morgan. (Macmillan Children’s Books)

This is a beautiful collection. If you love all things Alice, if you enjoy the surreal world of Lewis Carroll, if you’re interested in where he found inspiration for parody and if you’re curious to see what a group of accomplished modern children’s poets can produce when let loose in Wonderland – then buy it!
The poetry in here is very funny and very clever. The new poems sit beside some Carroll originals and it all works brilliantly. I was a little surprised at the quality of the paper in this book and, indeed, that it is a paperback. In my not-so-humble opinion it would make a lovely glossy hardback, almost a coffee table book, particularly because it features the original Alice illustrations by Sir John Tenniel.
