Wild in the Streets

Wild In The Streets by Marilyn Singer. Illustrated by Gordy Wright (White Lion Publishing)

Not so much a poetry book, more a big picture book featuring prose and poems that explain exactly how wild our city streets can be. Detailed and clear illustrations by Gordy Wright are the backdrop to some fascinating information about how and why and where animals that we think of as living in the wild, are happy to make their homes alongside humans in our urban environment. From boars in Berlin, to sewer snakes in Singapore, via coyotes in Chicago, we are taken on an interesting journey. I learned a lot. I like how Marilyn Singer explains the different forms of poetry used, which should encourage young readers to experiment. I also like the way she hopes they will travel to discover more about our animal neighbours and how to protect them, both in cities and in the wild. TUC
