How to be a Tiger by George Szirtes (Otter-Barry)
We already know that George Szirtes is an accomplished and established award-winning poet. This collection just confirms that he is still writing great stuff for children. I particularly like the reworking of some old fairy tales – and the fact that some of the poems go on for several pages. Too often children are served up only simple bite-sized poems when they are hungry for something a bit meatier. I also like the fact that the poems do not patronise the reader or presume that kids can’t access fairly complicated ideas.
