The Final Year

The Final Year by Matt Goodfellow (Otter-Barry Books)

Sometimes a very good poet hits upon a seam of brilliance. As with this book. I am a big fan of verse novels. For one thing, as an ex teacher myself, I know how accessible they are for children who have trouble reading. Yes, it’s easy to read but I would suggest, content wise, for older juniors, teens and adults. A book that should be in every Year 6 classroom. It’s a powerful story well told but, be warned, it’s an emotional journey. Excellent illustrations too by Joe Todd-Stanton.
