I Am a Jigsaw by Roger Stevens (Bloomsbury)

This is the latest in Stevens’s series of anthologies which not only entertain but show children how to write and help teachers make poetry come alive in the classroom. The poems are all riddles or puzzles of one sort or another (with answers supplied, I’m glad to say). Some are easy, some less so – they are all fun. The poetics have not been sacrificed so they all read well. In Part Two of the book the riddles are unravelled and the secrets of the puzzle poem is revealed. An intriguing and valuable book for every child who loves a mystery. And a great one for parents and children to read and puzzle over together.
