Yes, I Ate the Cookie.

by Lyra Zborowski aged 10

“Where has the cookie gone?” Mother screamed
“That was meant to be my breakfast!
Oh dear,oh no! I cannot sew,
Without my cookie for breakfast!”

‘Oh dear.’ I thought.
‘Mother’s in a tizz,
And it’s all my fault!
Should I tell her,
Should I not?
Oh dear, what a disaster!’

I went down the stairs,
And I heard what was said:
“You greedy young girl!”
She was talking to my sister,
She had the blame!
I can just leave it there.

But I thought,
‘No, be honest!’
So I said “Oh Mother, dear!
You are much mistaken!
Bella only took the bacon!
It was I who took the cookie, oh dear.”
“You? I should have known.
But at least you were honest,
And didn’t stay a lying gnome.”

So remember, kids,
Never steal a cookie,
Or mother’ll get in a tizz.
