Wonderland

I fell in love and you watched me tumble down
Alice’s treacherous rabbit hole.
I fell blindly for so long, that by the time
I was irrevocably in Wonderland
you were no longer my White Knight.
You were more akin to the Red King of Hearts,
collecting the beating organs of me
and so many others
in order to build a cloudy kingdom
upon the sky blue of our tender, torn arteries.
— as I finished writing this I realised
that cards are red or black,
you were never the hero I thought you were
