Wishes

by Iliana aged 10

People wish.
They throw coins in wells and wish that their desire will come true.
They ask Santa for gifts and wish that their gifts will be under the tree.
They blow their candles each year and wish for something great.
We all wish – we all want glee.

Some wish for money,
Some wish for fame,
Some wish for luxury,
Some wish for acclaim.
But do you know what I wish for?

I wish for myself, my family and my friends to be healthy and happy.
I wish for these world disasters to come to an end.
I wish for the coronavirus to vanish and never return.
I wish for world peace so that we can see each individual as a friend.

These wishes may take time,
But that’s understandable.
As long as this world will be fine,
My exuberance is unchangeable.

These wishes may be a lot to ask for,
But that’s okay.
As long as we all keep strong during these tough times,
Maybe life won’t be so grey.

And now you know my wishes!
But I have one more wish for you:
I wish you happiness, health and wisdom
I do hope the genie will listen!
