I Will Put in the Box

by Sophie aged 10

I will put in the box
The principle spoken word on a stormy night
Flowers from my first outing

I will put in the box
A primary feeling of my old dog
A piece of snow from my first snowy day
The gerbils – I once owned

I will put in the box
My introductory fabulous Christmas
The original snowman I struggled to make
The first present I opened

I will put in the box
The first look at my bulldog
The first game I played with my brother
The time I made my eldest smile

I will put in the box
The first glimpse of my bulldog having a fit
The sadness of his stress
The upsetting memories stuffed in the corners
My box fashioned from old pictures and wood
The super-glued doors stay shut
The box doesn’t let anyone in

I shall travel in my box
To LA
To see the shining lights
