We Will Be Happy

by Arthur Davies aged 12

When we meet again
we will open the book
and enter the map inside,
pretending we’re explorers,
and we’ll travel through eras,
reaching the cretaceous period
on our bunk bed time machine.

We will create monsters in our science labs,
sleep in curled balls as wolves,
and build shelters in the blanket-cosiness
of granny’s airing cupboard,
pillow fight in the dark,
and watch the Simpsons,
laughing like dolphins.

We will be shop owners,
selling our paintings and
wide range of luxurious cordials.
Biscuits and tea will be served
in the café section.

When we meet again,
we will be happy.

It was a close run thing, Arthur, between yourself and Carys. I’m wondering if she’s your sister. If so you could maybe share the prize a little bit?
