Warrior Wasp

by Maisy Hodges aged 9

It is the middle of the school day
And in the playground
The children are
Eating their lunch, playing with friends

Suddenly, a massive, murderous, warrior wasp
Charges through the trees!
And gingerly, so gingerly
They step back
Even the fence stares in fear

A brave girl lunges forwards
She is as bold as a lion
The flowers flinch
The sky gapes
The children step back watching

Girl, children, sky and sun
Hold your breath
And be silent
A moment to remember
On this warm afternoon in June!
