War Soldiers

by Tayma Samaha aged 11

Cannons shot on the vast land;
Soldiers lay rotting on the earth’s crust
As I walk through a field of poppies
Where once soldiers lay
Shells lay raining, soldier lay dying gas filled this rotten hell
The Brits ate the Germans shelled the French rebelled
The start of the war was persuasive. every men joined as it was a game
But you my friend, you would not understand
The old lie – Ducle Est Decorum Pro Patria Mori
It is sweet and right to die for your country.
