Venice It’s Late

by Francesca aged 10

The canal sits
Calmly waiting
For dawn to break.

The clock tower claps
As it reaches 12 o’clock
Shouting,
Venice, it’s late!

Houses snore;
the city sleeps-
as it waits
for daybreak.

The ice cream stools stand
Tall and proud
Shivering in the moon light.

The city sleeps
As it waits,
Waits for new life.
