An Upside Down Holiday

by Emily Humphris aged 11

I am going on a
Summer Holiday.
School is over,
“Hip hip hurray!”

I’m doing a handstand,
I’m upside down.
Everything is
THE WRONG WAY ROUND!

The beach ball is square,
The sea is red.
Instead of a camp chair,
I’ve got my bed.

The sun is green,
the sky is brown.
My brother drops his ice-cream,
But he doesn’t frown!

I’m holding my ice-cream,
Licking the cone.
Everything’s so weird,
And I’m all alone.

I’m back on my feet,
Everyone has returned,
They’re in their swimming costumes,
With sun-burns.

I’m on a,
Summer Holiday,
School is over,
“Hip hip hurray!”
