Treasure

by Harshita Das aged 10

Once I wanted treasure
So I searched how to find some
There were many options
But being a pirate would be most fun

So I asked my mother for a ship
So we could sail the seas
We would be rocking up and down
Feeling the beautiful breeze

But my mother laughed and said
“You should go and dig holes
And be very quick
Just like a mole.”

So I took a shovel
And started to dig and dig in the sand
My friends were ready to help me
When I asked for a hand

We dug and dug
But we found nothing
Then the cuckoo
Began to sing

It sang like this
“Oh, you dug the garden for a real treasure
Go and ask her
Your clever mother.”

So we went back
And mother gave me 10 pounds
She then said
“That’s treasure enough for you I’ll be bound”

Thank you for digging up the garden
The Brussels and the onions I can plant
And make some Tulsi medicine
For your sick great, great aunt

I was a bit disappointed
So there was no treasure after all
But I guess I got some treasure
With a brand new doll!!!!
