through a painting not have support?
Why? Why? Why must kids who can write a social advocacy
through words told they must not be heard?
Why? Why? Why must the kids who can lead a group
when nobody knows what to do
be called stupid just because they’re too loud?
Why? Why? Why must the kid who can solve problems
in ways nobody has ever thought of
not have their talents nurtured
all because they never raise their hand?
Why? Why? Why must the kid who can learn instruments
within a day
be called slurs and an over-worker just because they are black?
Why? Why? Why must the kid who can feel others emotions
and help them feel better within seconds
be called too emotional?
Why? Why? Why must the kid who is able to comprehend
an advanced text be constantly scolded just because they can’t focus?
Why? Why? Why must we fit in a box to be curved
and shaped into the “perfect” mould they call intelligence?
Why?
