When Subtlety Unites

WINNER

Inhale the world; the fragrance of fresh grasses outside
Take in the scent of wet soil and of the half-charred bark
Bury yourself in the delicious smell of pages
Or the intoxicating odor of hot chocolate

Don’t breathe in the acrid smoke; Rid yourself of fumes
Nature thanks you; Lungs across our Mother Earth will too

Give a second thought to careless litter on the sidewalks
The waste that lies scattered endlessly on the dreary land
Reuse bottles in your home; don’t throw your plastic straws
Reduce the heap of junk that’s piling, rapid as tides

Think of the abandoned kittens which purr on the side
Of the street, dogs who get kicked for simply existing

We’ll work together; seven billion across the globe
Small, subtle moments, subtle actions, subtle habits
We shall bring our Mother back to life once more
