Spirit of the Forest

by Harshita Das aged 11

A green clearing inside
Bursting with liveliness
Light through little gaps
In the leaves
Playful animals
Black, fertile soil

The forest is the home to many
She is her animal’s nature
Sometimes vicious as a lion
Ripping through its flesh
Sometimes as playful as a cub
Hopping around the clearing
As clever as a fox
How would she look
As a human?

Dark brown and curly hair
She doesn’t bother to brush it
Eyes as golden as a lion’s fur
A vicious look to them
A jolly and playful smile
Her skin as dark as her hair
She wears a green flowing dress
There’s a playful skip to her step
Shoes as brown as a log
She plays with animals
She tends to them
When they are injured
Spirited and happy
That is the spirit of nature
