Small Flower

by Emilia aged 12

You want responsibility and duty,
Maybe something growing?
Like something fruity,
Would give you so much power!

You buy a seed from the store,
You put it in the soil
As soon as you get home
With so much greed for it to grow.

You watch it carefully every day,
Hoping it’ll grow more and more.
Bright and colourful each day.
Even when you took care of it well,

It still becomes dull, almost sickly,
It stares down slowly dying,
You thought to yourself was this worth buying?
Even when you looked carefully.

You didn’t notice the disease growing on its flower bed,
After some time it sadly dies.
When you’re reading and listening carefully,
Sometimes you are I are this flower.

We can’t be perfect too quickly.
Growing always takes time.
You, are always worth buying,
Give yourself time.
