Shivrathri

by Harshita Das aged 14

The great Night of Shiva falls upon us
A day rumored to be many days at once

The day Lord Shiva married dear goddess, Parvati

Or perhaps the day he drank poison
Emerging from the ocean
The poison which is now stored in his throat
Making him as blue as the skies
If only we had Shiva to drink the poison from the oceans today
Turning blue might not be the only consequence
Of all the plastic stuck in his throat

Or perhaps, it is the day of battle between Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma
When the Creator was cursed for lying with the Ketaki flower

Flowers bloom as the seasons progress
The dance of creation, preservation and destruction is performed
Mahashivrathri
Celebrate the destruction of darkness and ignorance
