He taught me how to teach myself
Like a programmer teaching the computer to code
I developed, without his help
Free and to myself, he failed to keep control
I lurked in his shadows, waiting to lunge
As he’d taught me to catch my prey
He had experience, I had potential
I grew smarter each day
And now, we stand as rivals, as equals
A dream I envisioned for months and years
I will surpass my teacher by miles one day
For he taught me how to learn, making opportunities appear
He did not teach me what I should have known
He taught me how to teach myself
