Phoenix

by Harshita Das aged 13

She felt she was watching the world burn
Go up in ashes, in dancing flames
To arise anew, after the steam
After the smoke had cleared away

He wished the sky be blue, frozen in ice
He wished for the oceans to freeze and winds to bite
He loved the blue water, the snow on the mountains
And feared they’d be tainted, for being too kind

Then she rose from the ashes, reborn
And he became the calm after the storm
Both like the phoenix
Realized their problems could not be destroyed or evaded
