Another Place

by Raj Vaza

dust leaving the ground,
engine whirs
as the body heads to the clouds
a wave of new possibilities await us
rubber lost,
asphalt marked,
the new world waves Red and White,
a strange sense of connection.

Small space,
new school, age five
A Cold winter, one to two
A Cold summer, one

slightly Bigger,
First close friend, first house change,
age six
Cold winter, two to four
Cold summer, two to four

Bigger,
First ride on a bicycle, first visit to America, age nine
Cold winter, four to eight
Cold summer, three to seven

Biggest,
First time driving a car, second visit to America,
age fourteen
Cold winter, eight to eleven
Cold summer, seven to ten

then . . .
dust leaving the ground,
engine whirs,
as the body heads to the clouds,
a wave of new possibilities awaits me
rubber lost,
asphalt marked,
the new world waves Red, White, and Blue
a strange sense of disconnection.

A new world,
New values,
Out of place.

Travelling!

4
by Teagan John aged 7

We’re on a plane,
We’re on a train,
We’re eating food,
We’re having a snooze,
We’re on the rails,
Upon the trails,
We are so high,
Up in the sky, but all that travelling,
Has made me ravenous!

Ice Cream

1
by Baily aged 9

I scream
you scream
whenever we eat ice cream
I ate too much I got a brain freeze
it’s like I ate some frozen peas
chocolate strawberry vanilla too
if you eat too much you might need the LOO
it’s so yummy
it fills up my tummy
be nice and I will give
and by the way what so you eat it with

Every time I eat it
my mum says I need to sit
as I open the cupboard doors
when I stand on the wooden floors
I found the sprinkles
it felt like I had wrinkles
and by the way what’s your favorite ice cream flavour?

I Don’t Have Many Pets…

0
by Harshita Das aged 10

I don’t have many pets
Just a cat or two
I really would really like some more
For I have got a few
I have only 3 dinosaurs in the attic
And only just 7 dogs
I may be having 4 or 5 monkeys
Living in the logs
I have just 15 sheep
And only ONE lamb
And a lion, which tends to eat me
Unless I give it ham
I only have 2 parrots
Who LOVE to screech and talk
I only have 5 zebras
Which love to take a walk
I only have ONE elephant
And it is as white as snow
But when I ask my parents for a few more pets
They always say NO

Out in the Garden
in a one fine day
I play with my doll
in a one fine day
I dress up my doll
in a one fine day
Out in the Garden
in a one fine day
I play with my ball
in a one fine day
Out in the Garden
in a one fine day
I bounce my ball
in a one fine day
Out in the Garden
in a one fine day
I play with my teddy
in a one fine day
Out in the Garden
in a one fine day
I throw my teddy
in a one fine day
Out in the Garden
in a one fine day….

Birds

by Aimee aged 9

There’s a bird in the sky
flying up high
wearing a bowtie
someone poked him in the eye
and now it’s hard to fly
so he’s saying goodbye
and he’s about to DIE!

There’s a bird in a flock
he’s about to drop
to the ground with a frown
while he is in town
He’s gonna get trod on
so he betta switch his head on
or he’ll be drop dead Fred
who is a dead head

Sparkles!

by Aimee & Kurtis

There are sparkles in the night
And the moon’s shining bright
There’s no need to shed a tear
Unless you want to show some fear

There are sparkles in the night
No need for any fright
Because your daddy is here
Giving you love and cheer

So merry christmas to all you out there
Just sit back and relax and enjoy a ginger beer

I Killed a Man

2
by Ptolemy Bowen aged 12

The five-nines bellowing at the mob of soldiers
trudging away from the horrors of shells.

Ruby red blood bubbles beaming in the blazing heat.
Nationless corpses littering the blood-shed battlefield.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a German soldier popped out of his trench.
BANG!
He was gone. Headshot, but the celebrations in my head caused something, something else, something horrible.
My best friend had been shot, his last words were, “Fight for King and Country”.

The horrors weren’t over. The ground started rumbling. The whole legion came storming towards the gas masks.

Gas!
Gas!
Someone shouted.

One left. One not enough.
Shall I live or shall I die, that’s the question. “I’m sorry,” I said.
I quickly put on the gas mask, his gas corrupted lungs, his froth filled mouth will haunt me till I die.
Because I killed a man.

The Marriage

1
by Bhavya Das aged 6

There was a marriage in Mumbai
We went there
The first day we had lots of fun
And ate lots of buns
We got to ride in a bus
It was so relaxing
The next day
We again went to the marriage
It was totally different than the other one
We ate cutlets
And had lots of fun
The next day
We went to the beach
Called beach Chaupati
In the afternoon we again went to a marriage
This time it was the best marriage
It was so big
We danced and ate the best food ever
It was like a fairy tale
The last day came
When we were leaving
We were so happy to go home
We went in a flight in the air
It was SO SO much fun!
