I Will Put in the Box

0
by Lorna Brown aged 10

I will put in the box

The first conga in the sapphire blue nursery
Tears from the cheerless eyes of my past
The first word spoken by a beautiful young baby

I will put in the box

A picnic of ham sandwiches in our car
The opening of a door to the vast holiday home
A spark from an active sparkler when it was Halloween

I will put in the box

The ear splitting shriek of my sister breaking her bones
The last laugh of my ancient Great Grandmother
And the first glimpse of my Step Mother’s thrilled face

My box is fashioned with game consoles and books
With pictures of the rain and the sun on the lid
With secrets in the depths of its corners
And a steel lock so no one can ever get in

I shall surf in my box
In the turquoise waves of the Caribbean
And then play in the palm trees
With my family members until the sun goes down

Last Night I Saw My Bedroom Dozing

2
by Daisy Wain and Abigail Gadsden aged 10 - 11

Last night I saw my bedroom dozing
Lamps were dreaming of becoming stars
Whilst cosy quilt covers were cuddling soft teddies

Last night I saw my bedroom partying
Toothbrushes were dancing the waltz
With minty fresh toothpaste
Teddy bears had a midnight feast
Whilst clothes sang to the sound of rush hour

Last night I saw my bedroom crying
Tears streaming down cold windows
Colourful wallpaper tried not to cry
The drawers opened their watering eyes
Throwing tonnes of clothes out

Last night I saw my bedroom breathing
Curtains opened their eyes ready for the day ahead
My bed stretched and yawned as Monday morning approached

This Morning I Saw the Theatre Awaken

4
by Alexie Latibudiere aged 10

This morning I saw the theatre awaken
Velvet-red curtains yawned
Plush pillows snored
And the columns stretched on the carpeted floor

This morning I saw the theatre eating
Exit doors noisily crunched
Unfastened handbags noisily munched
The theatre was so stuffed it wouldn’t eat ’til lunch

This afternoon I saw the theatre partying
Jewellery jingled
Objects mingled
Excited sandbags tingled

This evening I saw the theatre go to bed
Mirrors washed their faces
Slippers left no traces
Spectacles entered their cases
And they all went to bed

This Morning I Saw The Rink Breathing

1
by Frankie and Callum aged 10

This morning I saw the rink breathing
Puffing doors exhaled scents fill the air
Mobs of cold winters air rushing through
The winters locked doors

This morning I saw the rink awaken
Fire doors stretched open releasing the bitter iciness
The ice skates were animated buzzing about the big game
Air cons hesitate at the piercing cold winters ‘air

This morning I saw the rink crying
The tears from the penguins sliding through the cold ice
Plastic fold aways stared at cracked mirrors
Lamenting another day getting bashed about by the big skates

This morning I saw the rink dancing
Polar bears sliding across  the rink holding hands
The hot chocolate frolicking at the counter
The hockey puck whirling and twirling the morning away

Yesterday I Saw Tracy Island Waking Up

1
by Alex Carmen aged 10

Yesterday I saw Tracy Island waking up
Curved swimming pools opened wide
Tropical trees jumped out of the curled soil
Before lurching backwards to the gentle hum of Thunderbird 2

Yesterday I saw Tracy Island partying
Thunderbird 1 launched like a firework
Shooting up into the sky
While the piano danced to its thrust

Yesterday I saw Tracy Island blinking
Pictures open and closing their glowing eyes
To alert the island base of any emergency anywhere around the world
Lab control panels constantly opened their blood red eyes when experiments were
Going on

Yesterday I saw Tracy Island waving
Diving boards wavde Thunderbird 1 away
While leaves waved at the villa’s smoke going into the air

Yesterday I saw Tracy Island settling down
White piano keys telling their final tale
Pool tables rolling their sleepy balls away
While blinking pictures shut their eyes for good
Desks hugged all their valuables
Before everything went to sleep

Yesterday I Saw the Classroom…

1
by Hazal, Summer, Isabelle, Mayank and Callie aged 10

Yesterday, I saw the classroom arousing,
Curtains opened to the rise of the sun
Chairs untucked themselves
Windows stretched out as the scholars bolt in
Whilst aromas of early morning coffee wandered in
To the tune of birds’ tweets, birds got us on our feet

Yesterday, I saw the classroom munching
Bins nibbling on the repulsive litter
Doors gobbling up pupils as they scurry inside
Appetizing scents of paper gloriously filled the classroom
The window grazes on the fresh, minty air

Yesterday, I saw the classroom partying
The pencils manoeuvred across the page
Trays rattled to the beat of knees
Breezes of the air compelled the pages to do a Mexican wave

Yesterday, I saw the classroom snoozing
Chairs tucked back into their cosy bed
The book corner read a bedtime story
Good night class!

This Morning I Saw My Bedroom

1
by Harrison Cornish and Lilac Jarvis aged 10 and 11

This morning I saw my bedroom waking up
Teddy bears screaming of the alarm of dawn
Blinds stretching to the beat of the birds’ caws

This morning I saw my bedroom dancing
Toothbrushes doing the tango with tubes of toothpaste
Whilst mirrors pardoned the ballet to reflections

This morning I saw my bedroom angry
Clothes smoothed the bare floorboards
As T-shirts boasted to denim jeans
That they would be worn first
Whilst coat hangers listened worriedly

This morning I saw my bedroom partying
Gummy bears dancing with dolly mixture
Photos eating up memories for midnight snacks
As the stars shimmered in the moon light

This morning I saw my bedroom sleeping
Red velvet curtains shut their eyes
White shoes tucked under the sleepy bed
And lamps quietly boasted how bright they are

This Evening I Saw the Stadium

1
by Callum Stokes, Haydn Batin aged 11

This evening I saw the stadium awaken
Roof panels stretching
Opening out into a gaping yawn
Ready to prepare for an exciting game.

This evening I saw the stadium eating
Small plastic chairs swallowed up moaning fans
Whilst cheers munched on music
Long shards of grass hungrily grabbed the players’ boots.

This evening I saw the stadium crying
Colossal white goal posts screamed at the pressure
Of the firm and solid leather ball smacking them in the face
Futuristic score boards wept at the sight of a defeat.

This evening I saw the stadium in rage
Immeasurable metal cameras fiery because of the rain
Gushing down on their lenses had no assistance
Towering titanium fences livid because of the careless fans
Shouted, They are bundling me.

Yesterday I Saw My Bedroom

1
by Sienna Botterill, Ben Hayes, Zak Johnson and Olivia Laws aged 10-11

Yesterday I saw my bedroom awakening
Alarm clocks yawned a piecing scream
Bed-frames groaned at the disturbance
Whilst rugs stretched across the floorboards
And books flew in the air

Yesterday I saw my bedroom devouring
Pillows stuffed themselves
Doors demolished lights
And windows chomped the air

Yesterday I saw my bedroom ecstatic
Beds bounced off the walls
Teddies partied on the wardrobe
T.V vomited flashing lights
and my bedroom exploded with noise

Yesterday I saw my bedroom seething
Drawers slammed shut
Whilst lamps aggressively turned on and off
And curtains blinded the windows

Yesterday I saw my bedroom exhausted
Duvets snuggled the mattress
Whilst clothes cuddled each other in the wardrobe
Desks slept against the walls
And blankets lay upon the bed edge

Last Night I Saw The Stadium

1
by Rian, Max, Ayden and Jamie aged 11

This morning I saw the stadium rousing
Carbon fibre roofs stretched open to let shards
Of warm morning day in.

Last night I saw the stadium dancing
Local fans hasten in the stadium
Chairs clapped to fans in the air.

Last night I saw the stadium ravenous
Home goals were stuffed
Whilst away were famished
And black plastic bins belched
The white polystyrene cups.

Last night I saw the stadium breathing
Exhaling fans and inhaling stewards
Stewards swilling tsunamis of litter.
