I Will Put in the Box

I will put in the box
The swish of a salty sea on a summer day
Fire from the gaps of an expensive grill
The salt of the sea splashed on my superb face

I will put in the box
A teddy with a rumbling belly
A gulp of the tastiest smoothie from Sainsbury’s
A leaping spark from a burning sparkler

I will put in the box
Nine bright lives from a my cat
The last walk from a dying nanny
The first step from a baby

I will put in the box
The first seconds of a sunrise
A boy on a mobility scooter
An old gran on a bike

My box is decorated with glass and diamond and platinum
With suns on the lid and stories in the corners
The hinges are blazes from an ancient volcano

I shall run in my box
On a great wildly coloured racing track
Then have a break on a grassy field
The colour of a ripe leaf

In my box I will put

My brother so tall and strong
When the sun smiled at me
The first time I ate bacon

In my box I will put

My first baby tooth
So straight and white
My first bike
So small and green

I will put in my box

My favourite baby toy
My first Christmas
So nice and happy
My big red blanky

My box will be made of
Titanium, gold, steel and diamond
With hinges of emerald

In my box I will
Enter a sunny beach
Full of sand and pebbles

I will put in my box
The sandy-salted sea shells on the sea shore
A teddy with a rumbling belly
The epic Christmas spirit

I will put in my box
The rolling wheels of a car
A touch of the softest towel
The smell of lasagne

I will put in my box
A red-tailed fox, killing a cat
The feeling of the 11+
Passing the hardest thing

I will put in the box
Being myself that I have done before
Getting into trouble at school
The snow flying down

I will put in my box
The taste of a Christmas dinner
The smell of the sea washing everything up
A touch of a bee’s sting

I will jump in my box
And eat up all the bad memories
Never to be thought of again

I will put in the Box

The soft fluffy feel of my dog’s fur
The time I broke my brother’s baby chair
When I heard the first gurgle of a baby
On the transition days at school when I met my teacher

I will put in the Box

A time for new friends and reuniting with old
Christmas morning opening the best present ever
When I brought my two Guinea Pigs home

I will put in the Box

The quiet bark of a puppy
New friends in Reception
When I almost dropped my baby brother

My box is made from photographs with bronze locks
With all of my memories
On the outside I will store all of my secrets

Carrying all secrets foretold and storing them away
I shall carry my box far and wide
Every second of everyday, every hour, never
Leaving any memory behind

I will put in the box
The swish of a party dress on a
Summer night
Smoke from the sparkling
Firework display
And the piercing screech of a furry monkey.

I will put in the box
An old, forgotten Barbie doll with sore feet
A sip of an exotic cocktail
Called the Mickey Mouse
And a bucket and spade from Broadstairs
Beach.

I will put in the box
Three polite greetings spoken in
Sign language
The last joke from an ancient grandad
And the first steps of my baby cousin.

I will put in the box
A thirteenth month and a purple moon
A dragon in a tower
And a princess in a dark lair.

My box is fashioned from glass
And steel
With doodles on the lid
And laughter in the corners
Its hinges are made from the mighty
Tusks of elephants.

I shall climb in my box
To the colossal snowy peaks
Of the vast Himalayas
Then silently sleep in my bed
As soft as down.

I will put in my box
A hurting hand with a handful of scars
A chip of gold in a block of lead
The smashed rock on the sandy sea shore

I will put in my box
A helpless snowman with a loose head
A drop of contaminated water
The flash of a fish’s scale

I will put in my box
The air of their last breath
The water of their last drink
The food of their last meal

I will put in my box
The tears of my first day in school
The cry of my parents leaving
The scream of being alone

I will put in my box
The sickness of a disgusting drink
The laughter of good friend
The stench of ruined shoes

My box is fashioned from gingerbread
and raw chocolate and vegetables
With clouds on the lid and secrets in the corners
Its hinges are suspensions of monster trucks

I will put in the box
The scorching sun crying out small fire balls
The wind’s cold breath on my cheeks
The face of a new-born baby in my arms

I will put in the box
A teddy bear with a broken heart
A sip of beautiful banana milkshakes from McDonalds
A leaping spark from a sparkler on New Year’s Eve

I will put in the box
Three green dreams spoken in French
The last joke of my Grandfather
And he first smile of my sister

I will put in the box
A black sun and a new day
A grown man crying heavily
And a baby being brave

My box is embroidered with golden thread
My box is fashioned with gold diamonds and steel
With the hinges as sturdy as the toe joints of dinosaurs
Stars are on the top and secrets are in the corner

I shall go trampolining in my box
On the great jumping pads
Then feel the breeze of a fan
And enjoy the feeling of paradise

I will put in the box
My dog’s protection
Happiness from my birthday
My saddest moment when I watched Dolphin Tale

I will put in the box
The snowman’s bright orange nose
The frozen sea of the beach
And the snow falling on my nose

I will put in the box
My Nan’s sweet voice
My grandad’s loud laughter
My teacher’s guiding tone

My box is fashioned from chocolate cake
With buttercream and sprinkles
Its hinges are slithers of chocolate

I shall time travel in my box
Dreaming in Hollywood as people begin to act
Whilst I settle down for the performance.

I will put in the box

The sun reflecting of the sea,
Dolphins diving in and out the ocean,
The first laugh of my silly sister.

I will put in the box

Waving snow angels,
A sip of pure white milk
A long storm of snow

I will put in the box

The happiness of my first Christmas
The first joke of my favourite grandad
An the first laugh of my twin

I will put in the box

The last memory of my parents together
My sister with a toy gun
And me in a dress

My box is fashioned from snow, rubber and steel
With a pure black lid with secrets deep down
The hinges of the Hulk’s toe
I shall ice skate in my box
On slippy-tumbling ice in Antarctica
Then rest on a black mat
The colour of the moon

I will put in my box
My first ever football game
The kick of a ball with my sibling
The euphonic noise of the crowd at my first goal

I will put in the box
The mesmerical image of my parents dancing
The thunderous engine of a gleaming chariot
The soft embrace of a caring mother

I will put in the box
The innocent view of white hot anger
bewilderment and loss in a strange house
The loss of a mini me

I will put in my box
My first glimpse of a new embrace
Sympathetic thoughts from a steadfast rock
United joy at the glorious game

My box is fashioned from
Green velvet, sunshine and gold
With smiles on the lid and tears in the corners
The hinges are the riotous cheers of the stadium

I shall travel in my box
On a high flying powerboat over the Mediterranean Sea
Stopping in Malta’s safe harbour
Drinking ‘Kinnies’ to a memory.
