Poem That Doesn’t Work

by Issy aged 10

I like to tease
and chew some trees
did I mention I like pies?
I love #FOOD
I have a fire in my house
I’ve got to go – bye
Just a second I need my teddy
Time just flies when you’re having fun dumb
and that was the poem that doesn’t work

Aliens

4
by Penelope Dever aged 8

aliens have 200 feet
aliens have 96 eyes
aliens have 26 legs
aliens eat 3000 pies

aliens live in space
aliens live on the moon
aliens live in the solar system
aliens, you will see them soon

their eyes are horrible blue
their faces are disgusting green
their lips are bloody red
and they’re extremely mean

SuperMama

0
by Adam Rafael Holmes aged 7

She would look good in a Harry Potter film
With her long pointy nose and colossal sticky out chin.
We play Harry Potter wizard chess
And I almost always win.

My Mama wears a long red coat
She has a white one as well.
Last week a lorry splashed past us
And made the white one smell!

Mama has 4 faces: loving, funny, angry and sad.
The loving one makes me extremely happy and glad,
I feel cared for and say “I love you”
And Mama says “I love you too”.

The funny face makes me excited and a little mad.
It comes when I remind her that she said 8 times 4 is 42
How embarrassing, how bad!

Mama only gets sad when I am sad too.
If Daddy takes my toy and says:
“Don’t do that or you can’t have it back”.
Sometimes if I do something cheeky
Like not come down for breakfast on time,
Mama tells me off and
I say don’t be angry with me
And we start to sing a little rhyme.

Mama helps me with things and teaches me.
If there is no homework to be done,
She shows me science or festivals, writing or sums.
When Mama teaches me, it is always fun.

Mama reads to me at breakfast time
And at the weekend if we have no plans
We just lie on the bed with our stories
About different people and different lands.

On Thursdays I was unhappy when Mama went back out
She had to do another job but I did really shout.
When Mama goes to bed with me
I always feel safe.
I like it when we sing our lovely night, night song
I hold the last note for so so long.

Every week I work very hard
For my pocket money and treats.
Last Friday I did so much work
We went to buy me a new toy in Upper Street.

I love my Mama more than the planets, sun and stars.
I love her more than infinity, the oceans and delicious chocolate bars.
At bedtime I snuggle up with her and my best cuddly toy.
Mama is the best Mama in the world
And I am the best baby boy!

I love my teacher
she is the best teacher
she makes clues
she says I love you
I’m nine
And my teacher is my friend

Fancy Dress Party

0
by Harshita Das aged 11

It was a fancy dress party
With many, many things
There were vampires and Draculas
And fairies with wings

There were dogs and lions
And also there were cats
But they usually got overshadowed
By the tiny little bats

My Aunt was there as well
She was a really ferocious cat
And she was also pretty fat

And she was green too
Are cats usually green?
And those spikes….
You should have really seen

But when I asked her what it was
She got really sour
She said: Isn’t it obvious
It’s a really cute Dinosaur

Birthday Present

by Harshita Das aged 11

I got a bear for my birthday
My dad thought it was fun
Mom got me a kitten
She thought I’d always wanted one

My sister bought me a monkey
It was naughty, the monkey
And my brother went one step further
He brought me a donkey

My aunt got me a dog
My uncle got me a cat
My grandpa brought something more
And it was a bat

Anne bought me a horse
Mike gave me a pup
The only normal present I got
Was a tiny teacup

So if you’re animal sick
Don’t be lazy
Don’t let your family know
That you’re animal crazy!

The Skin I’m In

0
by Jannaya aged 10

The skin I’m in cannot tell my whole
It cannot tell you who I am
On the outside you will see
Brow skin, black hair, brown eyes
But that is only a small part of me

The skin I’m in can make people guess
But most of the time those guesses are wrong
I’m kind, determined and funny too
But nobody can tell that from first view

The skin I’m in is just a covering
You cannot see my whole story
I’ll open my heart wide if you want to get to know me
Because you cannot judge a book by its cover
But you can judge it by what’s inside

The skin I’m in
It’s part of me
But there’s much more underneath

The Skin I’m In

by Emma aged 10

The skin I’m in is just a covering
Beauty is not skin deep
We are given labels
Black or white
We need to rip them off and think, who would I be without them?

If you want to know who I am inside
Don’t hide the good away from view
Because anyone could judge me if they really wanted to

Through diversity we are unified
Be with me, inside of me
Look through the windows
I am not black… I am Emma
