The Festival of Lights

by Harshita Das aged 11

I glanced out the window
On a clear, rippling night
Pitch black, nothing could I see
Not a single home in sight

Then I saw a dot sparkling
One, then two, then more
The lighting of the lights
With candles on every door

To celebrate Ram’s return
From his 14 years exile
With celebrations and parties
Hundreds of diyas every mile

Our house is decorated and lit
On the festival of light
No moon, still lit as heaven
With not a star in sight

Our homes are up and glowing
With Lakshmi’s blessing, hard work we can bear
Cheer as hard as you can
For the Diwali is here!!!

Future

The future is something
You can never shed light upon
And when you argue that you do
The future is already gone

The future is darkness
And when you finally find some light
The future has escaped
Far away, in the darkness, out of sight

But when your head is clean
And your eyes are clear
To the future in the darkness
You know, your final breath is near

The Night it was Quiet

Not a whisper or a rustle,
Not a twit or a twoo,
Not a snore not a meow,
Not even a squeak
From the mouse
In our house.

zebras are black

The Calmest Place in Mexico

The Calmest Place in Mexico

This day as calm as a baby sleeping.
The blue sky streams over the forest of Maya.
The sky as cool as the solar eclipse.
Peace comes to the Earth.
The Moon is gone.
It’s getting dark, hurry home.

The sky as blue as the sea,
The sky as clear as the ocean.
Red and white birds rush about,
All the birds begin their song because love brings happiness.

The shooting star
Shoots over the temple over the Mayan forest.
The full moon too disappears over the pyramid.
Happiness of fiesta day has arrived
In the state of Mexico
A new sun brings light to all who live together here.

Pathway to Heaven

This day peaceful, calm.
Powerful water streams over the rocks as big as boulders,
Water as cold as ice, comes to the earth.
The moon is gone.
Small black moles hurry home.
Cactus as sharp as razor blades, rocks as hard as the Hulk.
Red and white birds rush about,
All the lovely birds begin their song because nature brings happiness.
The shooting star shoots over the sky like a plane in the air.
There’s a path to heaven over the water.
Happiness of fiesta day has arrived in the joy of life.
A new sun brings light, to all who live together here.

Bears and Hare

by Noureen K. Ajmal aged 6

We are in the fair.
A bear swallows a hare.
Hare’s hair tangles up,
But no problem.
There comes another hare,
And every hare gets swallowed.
Here comes another bear,
And the bear swallows the bear.
Bear’s tummy feels like rumbling.
It gets bigger and bigger.
And the bear inside the bear
Swallows the hare inside the bear.
That’s a very rare thing.
The bear’s tummy gets bigger and even bigger.
Bigger than any bear could have.
Suddenly, the bear’s tummy burst.
Here comes the hare,
Popping out of the mouth.
And everyone pops out
And the bear was dead
And hare became friends with bear!

I Have a Dream

I have a dream ,

To become a popstar
but that not going to happen

But I have lots more dreams
To be a Youtuber
but everyone has that dream
Do you?

What Do You See?

What’s that?
Don’t worry,
It’s just a fair.

What’s that?
Don’t worry,
It’s just a hare.

What’s that?
Don’t worry,
It’s just a bear.

A bear!
Run for your lives!
