Life of an Orphan

4
by Fathima

I look outside and see
so many joyful children
who go to school
with a smile on their face
and with plaited hair.

But I have no one
I am all alone
crying with an empty stomach.
Everyone around me is so happy
but not me…

If you think the world
is full of joyful people
then you are wrong
You are absolutely wrong

I wish I could go to school
with a bag on my back.
I wish to read books.
I, too, wish to have fun
with my friends

I, too, want to wear uniforms
and have toys to play with.
I wish to have a magnificent house.
But my dreams never come true.
Never, ever in my life.

I want to taste cakes and sweets.
I hate living in a slum.
If everyone is equal
why not me?
Why can’t you spare a coin for me?
Why am I not equal?

New House

by Emma aged 10

I’m moving to my new house
I can’t keep control of all the butterflies
inside my tummy.
What a big house, I’m kind of amazed
Can’t wait for all the fun parties and sleepovers
I’m going to have.
I love planning what my room Is going to look like.
New house, new house
Can’t wait for you to come and see
MY NEW HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!

Snowflakes

by Emma aged 10

Snowflakes, snowflakes they fall on the ground
snowflakes everywhere, I’ve lost count
I wish it could be winter everyday
so I could run around with my friends
[some of them fall down] not me.
We love to make snowmen
When I was little we made a snowman that was 7 foot 2!!!!!
Try and catch the snowflakes I never fail
Snow flakes everywhere, they don’t make a sound

Junk Food vs Veg (Zombies)

2
by Jemima:) aged 10

Before I truly start this poem
I would like to say a big friendly hello
To all my fellow junk food lovers
If you don’t like junk food and eat veg instead
Then I will still greet you
But with quite a lot of reluctance because
Who doesn’t like the following?

A deliciously sugary chocolate cake
Yummy brownies that you bake
Burgers too large to fit in your gob
Melted cheese on top of a cob
Sprinkle-topped doughnuts oozing with jam
An ice cream sundae made by someone called Pam
Microwaveable popcorn that puffs out then pops
Chuppa-chuppa lollies that come out tops
Savoury salt-layered crinkly crisps
Cherry-topped mousse served on elegant ships
Pepperoni covered pizza melting with cheese
Hot chocolate and marshmallows made from powder with ease

Now I don’t mean to frighten any children
Or make parents cross
But you, um, how can I put this?
When you become an adult
You turn into a sort of vegetable zombie
I will list the signs of a vegetable zombie right here
You will often hear them say things like this:
Try a salad!
How about some fruit?

Now whatever you do, do NOT listen to them
They are completely and utterly without a doubt in the world…
EVIL
That’s right, even your sweet little mummy and daddy
Have a horrible and healthy dark side underneath that sugary shell
So if I were you and your parents are veg zombies
Then I would run to a remote island in the middle of the sea
Find a cave and make it my home
In fact, that is exactly what I have already done

Just think of it like a tropical, luxury escape
I mean, it kind of is if you change the tropical part
To rainy and isolated from the rest of civilisation
And luxury to maybe middle/lower/what has my life come to:(!?class
And the escape part is bang on!
Who am I kidding?
Never run away from home
Your veg zombie parents will just stop if you threaten to run away

Sorry about that super long wait
I was sailing back home after that extremely emotional moment
I kind of miss my little cave, so many good memories…
Anyway! Back to the lesson and the boring stuff
So the lesson here is:
Never run away from home or do something stupid like that
Because deep down
Your parents will always love you and you will always love them
(Even if they are crazy zombies who might eat your brain);)

My daddy taught me how to ride my bike
He makes delicious dinners
My daddy always told me a bed time story

That is why you have a lovely daddy

How To Get To School

I get to school by a car
But some people walk
Or you can go on a school bus,
Taxi or ride a bike
or scoot

Ellie, My Stuffed Elephant

5
by Zachary aged 10

Many people have
Stuffed teddy bears,
Or
Rabbits,
But I have
A stuffed elephant.
His name
Is
Ellie.

His tail,
A little shredded,
From all the times
I rubbed it against my hand.

His neck,
With no stuffing,
From all the times
I squeezed him tight in a hug.

His blue fur,
All matted down,
From all the times
I used him to brush away my tears.

His amber eyes,
A little scratched,
When they stare at me,
I wonder
Just how many memories
A stuffed elephant
can hold.
