Road

by Harshita Das aged 12

Our life is like an endless road
And we’re travelling in a car
To a place that we don’t know
So much traffic and so many delays
So many crossroads
Too many to choose
Sometimes we break a few rules
Sometimes, we got caught
Sometimes not
Sometimes we have accidents
But we survive
And we drive and drive
Until we reach our goal
And then we set a new one

Doesn’t

A crown doesn’t make you a king
A tiara doesn’t make you a princess
A pen doesn’t make you a writer
A sketchbook doesn’t make you an artist
A sword doesn’t make you a soldier
The only thing that makes you all these
Is you

Monsoon, Come Soon

Kids’ Poetry, Monsoon, Come Soon

Monsoon, O Monsoon!

Come Soon, Come Soon.

Sunrise and Sundown now

Are hot like noon, hot like noon.

The land is cursed but

You’re a Boon, are a Boon.

Look! My mouth is burning

Like a fiery spoon, fiery spoon.

Please end this wait,

Or the sweating baboon

Will Soon Swoon, Soon Swoon.

Am I a loon or are you a goon?

Stop teasing and make the land

A lagoon, a Lagoon.

O Dear Monsoon! Come Soon!

White

As beautiful as heaven
like a peaceful cloud
like white chocolate
like an angel sleeping
like a soft pillow
The poem ends
as softly as it began

The Sculpture of Trash

0
by Pragun aged 12

I feel something is
staring at me.
It’s behind me.
Don’t know what

it is, just have to
look behind.
I turn at look
at the thing

that was staring
at me. It is
a sculpture made
of trash that is

as tall as a rabbit.
Was it a kid
who created this
in a few minutes?

Or some artist who
wanted to create a
piece of abstract art?
And why, oh why

would this park be
the perfect place
for this sculpture?
I think that it’s lost.

Might have fallen
down when the artist
was strolling through
this park. I hope he finds

it – the piece of abstract
art that I think I will
never, ever properly
understand.

The woods (2nd draft)

by Elsie aged 12

I can see tiny twinkles that are glowing by a big oak tree,
I climb up the tree in the magical woods,
Little hidden windows upon,
I hear little voices and jingles like bells,
Perhaps they could be fairies I thought,
I see flowers that look as if they’re painted,
I see birds with elves upon them,
The song that they sing seems magical,
In the mysterious woods.

Space

by Elsie aged 12

Laying on the ground gazing up at the stars,
Wondering what is up there,
I dream of finding out more,
How far space travels,
The planets,
Are there more?
The galaxy,
I want to see,
How big are the stars, the sun, the moon,
I look into space,
Wondering,
Is there life in space…

A Life Without Friends

A life without friends
So gloomy,
so dark

A life without friends
So unwelcoming,
So hard

A life without friends
is a world
of dark
