Don’t Blame It on Me!

I’m not the one who
smashed the window playing tennis
So don’t blame it on me!

Blame it on the dog, blame it on the cat!
Just please do not
blame it me!

I’m not the one who dropped your
best perfume on the floor!
I promise it wasn’t me!

Blame it on the dog, the cat
But do not blame it on me!

Well, maybe I ripped my homework
to shreds or maybe I fed the cat
that macaroni cheese
But please mum, please let
me have the iphone three!

The Delicious Side of the Moon

4
by Harshita Das aged 12

I search the night sky for the moon
And instead, I find a cake
I stare at it, for it must be special
As it glows brightly in a strange vanilla white
Another night, I glance up
And a white coconut looks back at me
Days wear on and I grow curious again
What food item will the sky hold?
My eyes scan the sky
And I find a complete half of a white pancake
The sight makes me drool
There is a rather pointy banana on another night
And a deformed burger on another
I look up on a random night
Hoping for a pointy sausage
And instead I find darkness
And I can picture the sky scolding me
“You should not eat so much”

The Moon

by Harshita Das aged 12

I search the skies for a silver ball
I scan the darkness for a light
And light I see, but in twinkling stars
Not in the sphere that shines at night
Seems the moon has gone for a sky trip

Days wear on and I look at a sinking Sun
And as a dark, white dotted blanket engulfs the sky
I spot a light – a crescent shimmering in the dark
Besides the clouds; hovering high

And as the moon enlarges
Night in and night out I observe
Until it becomes a perfect half
Of the moon, into which it will grow

On another night, it glares at me
With its craters that are its eyes
It seems very oval
And looks rather like a face on that night

Another night it smiles at me
It seems very chubby
It looks like a perfect round
And I wonder when it’ll go for its sky trip again

Rivers will trickle
Rain will slowly, gently fall
Animals will surround you
So look around you

(Burger)
Have you ever stacked cards?
Or Lego pieces on top of each other?
Ever had your mother not be at home?
And you alone?
And then you get hungry
And you don’t know how to cook?
Well, making a burger
Is as easy as stacking cards
First take a base
If you don’t have those expensive and starchy burger bases
Then stack three slices of bread on top of each other
Then spread tomato slices on the bread
Then stack three more bread
Take a thin slice of steak
Then add tons of chili sauce in there
Along with mayonais
And tons of slices of cheese
Then stack three more bread
And good luck to you, eating that giant burger!!

Social Media for Plants

0
by Harshita Das aged 12

In a world, a hundred years away
In another golden age of social media
The plants will have no doubt caught up
On the latest techs and gadgets

They’ll call each other on phones
More symbiotic plants will there be
More social and helpful
Will this be for the economy
The lichens’ fungal and algal partner
Will be besties on Tumblr
Apples will rule twitter
With their cheesy and tacky line
“An apple a day keeps the haters away!”
Blueberries will be famous on BerryTube
And they’ll have collaborations
With strawberries and raspberries
And gooseberries and cloudberries
And bilberries and cherries
Mangoes will have a blast on Instagram
Posting selfies and new food everyday
Like mango juice, mango shakes
Golden colored mangoes, green colored
Mango cheesecake, mango ice-cream, mango pickles
Facebook shall have new stories everyday
Posted by fruits from far-off countries
And their journey to this land
No need for cherries to be stuck together anymore
For they can now use Skype
Every plant will have WhatsApp
It will be a whole new World (Wide Web)!!

(Soup)
How do you make soup?
Well what you need
Is to grab your hand on every ingredient you find
Milk, eggs, bacon
Rice, canned food, vegetables
Fruits, dough
Everything you can get your hand on
Then stuff the solid stuff in a grinder
Pour it in a bowl
Add delicacies like rice and dough on it
Heat it on the stove
And don’t let the foul odor fool you!

Grey

Grey
The world isn’t black and white
It isn’t divided into saints and devils
It’s much more complicated
So many shades of grey
Some darker
Some lighter
We all have different sides

Some think that grey signifies dullness
I don’t
I feel like it signifies balance
A middle

Every choice has one good
There’s no right or wrong
The only wrong is to hurt others
The only right is to help others
Grey promises
That there is no black and white

Spirits of the Night

by Akifah Abdin aged 9

Spirits flew past
as the hours grew large
poor souls have the dream of which the spirits go past
They wait…
The snores tell it’s time
the roars of anger tell the spirits it is fine
The soul becomes lost but the sleep remains
though dawn creeps up
yet the spirits have
gone
Thee the child is free
But what is yet to come?

Guess Who?

Guess who?
I’m strict
I’m stern
I’m quick
I lick
Guess who!
Who do you think?
I’m Crystal the tiger
Fancy a bite to eat?
