Down on a leaf in the hedgerow,
A butterfly laid her eggs,
Her colours – red, orange, white,
Her legs thin and straight.
Days later the eggs started to hatch,
One left to go,
The odd one out from the rest.
Bright yellow was the shell,
The others white,
The others see-through.
When the egg hatched,
The caterpillar inside…
Was wearing boots!
Shining yellow and too big for each foot,
He loved his boots.
In his boots he waddled about,
It was clear that he was the odd one out…
One sunny day he decided to leave,
He decided to leave his home – the leaf,
And wonder off to find something else to eat.
He came across a bird who carried him to its nest,
She said this food looks the best!
She tried to feed him to her chicks,
But his prickles pricked ‘PRICK!’
He wiggled and squirmed like a worm,
Until he…
Found himself below the tree.
But what this caterpillar didn’t know
Was he had left a boot behind,
The one with the golden glow.
He scurried as fast as he could,
Trying to get back home,
He walked for miles,
Day…. night,
Travelling alone…
