The Moon

by Tianna Smith aged 8

The moon shines so bright, in the night
so very bright, it glistens in the moonlight
The stars shine bright, next to the moon
I want to go there sometime soon.

Planes in the sky
For a celebration
100 years of the
Royal Air Force, how amazing!
Loud and proud in the sky
Thank you RAF for
Risking your lives.

Orphaned Factories

0
by Pragun aged 12

There are these factories –
They’re outside town.
Once, they were like you and me.

They had parents; they were cared for.
A part of the salary was spent on them.
But soon, they ran out of business.

The parents had nothing to do –
They didn’t have money.
They left, leaving their children behind;
Leaving them to rot.

And here those factories are today –
Rusting and waiting for a new owner;
A new parent who’ll take care of them.

Sonder

Sonder
I walk the roads; no destination in mind
I wander, lost and alone
Looking around; people I find
Insignificant lives, compared to my own
Random strangers; billions of them surround the streets
Yet each has a life as complex as mine
Each, like me, hiding behind a smile so discreet
Each having their own life prime
And now I am the one feeling insignificant
I feel sonder

Night Sky

by Elsie aged 12

A galaxy of stars in the night sky

is miles above my head,

I see it twinkling, sparkling,

Like tiny dots I see the stars,

Purple, blue, red,

I see it as a tiny swirl in humongous space,

But really it is giant in an even more giant place,

Her sparkling draws me in,

I want to see more,

I want to travel up there,

To see the galaxy’s glory.

Sun Time Fun Time

2
by Elsie aged 12

(song/poem)

Based on Shotgun by George Ezra

Standing on the beach,
Where sand meets sea,
The water touches my feet,
I walk further in,
Until it’s deep,
I cool down instantly,

I’ll be in the sea,
Under the hot sun,
Having lots of fun,
Woah oh
I’ll be in the sea,
Diving underneath,
Dodging seaweed,
Woah oh

The sun shining down, parching me,
Jellyfish floating around,
My feet,
The waves coming in,
Choppy,
Woah oh

Standing on the beach,
Where sand meets sea,
The water touches my feet,
I walk further in,
Until it’s deep,
I cool down instantly,

I’ll be in the sea,
Under the hot sun,
Having lots of fun,
Woah oh
I’ll be in the sea,
Diving underneath,
Dodging seaweed,
Woah oh

Building sandcastles,
Up high,
Riding waves,
Falling off of the side,
On my board,
Woah oh

Standing on the beach,
Where sand meets sea,
The water touches my feet,
I walk further in,
Until it’s deep,
I cool down instantly,

I’ll be in the sea,
Under the hot sun,
Having lots of fun,
Woah oh
I’ll be in the sea,
Diving underneath,
Dodging seaweed,
Woah oh

I’ll be in the sea,
Under the hot sun,
Having lots of fun,
Woah oh
I’ll be in the sea,
Diving underneath,
Dodging seaweed,
Woah oh
Woah ohh

What a Plastic Bag Wants to Tell You

0
by Pragun aged 12

There are billions like me –
as many as the number
of people on this planet.

But don’t be worried.
There will be more soon.
You produce me like
there’s no end to this.

You should be thinking
That I should be happy
More like me – more fun.

But to be honest,
don’t you think now’s
a little too much?
