The Band

The guitar notes are
Soft and slow
And then a beat with the drum
Steadily getting faster
And then on the fifth beat,
Cue the singer
Melodious, with a playful tone
He starts off

And the trumpets are chiming in too
The piano’s tune is catchy and fun
And we’re all singing

Kittens

Kittens are fast,
Kittens are small,
Kittens can hardly do anything at all,
Kittens will purr
But kittens can scratch,
Would you want to see kittens in a football match?

A Smile

A smile
A grin
Shows me that I can fit in
But there’s something about
Your smile that makes me smile too
And I know that every one of you
Can smile too!

Try Your Hardest

by Elsie aged 12

I entered a competition a few weeks ago,
a drawing competition,
I thought I was good,
very good at art,
but now I know I am just GOOD.
I sent it off thinking nobody is better than me,
so I just drew a picture just randomly,
I didn’t care if it was good or bad,
because I thought I was REALLY good at art,
I slopped up my bit of art, took no care at all.
The few next days a letter arrived in the post,
I had lost the competition,
if I had tried my hardest then,
I would have got through,
I might have won the competition.
I only had to
try my hardest.
So try your hardest,
with whatever you do,
you might win a competition,
like I was trying to,
if you try your hardest,
you might succeed in what you do.

Read or write
you’re always
in sight.
This light
will blind you
but not at night.
Night becomes morning
stop your snoring.

The Daisy Chain

by Elsie aged 12

Playing in a field one day was a girl,
collecting daisies was she.
She was collecting for ages and ages,
until she had enough daisies,
for she was going to make a daisy chain.
Little did she know,
that the daisies of the field were cursed
by an old witch widow.
What the girl never knew,
was that she had created a cursed chain
until she watched someone touch it,
and then she was filled with guilt.
Now the daisy chain lies there,
waiting to be touched again
waiting to curse anyone
who dares to touch,
waiting…

A Feather Moved Down

A feather moved down
like a Sherpa going down
the tall Mount Everest.

A feather moved down
from the top of the building
to the bottom.

A feather glided down
with a lot of care
as slowly as a snail

A feather moved down
and finding it could land,
landed on the rock runway
like an aeroplane.

Animals

All my little cute animals
at feeding time run like cannibals
upright, upside down
and sit yourself down, now!
Fire! Fire! Keep away, you’re flammable
