What Makes a Perfect Snowman?

What is perfect for a snowman?
A scarf knitted by nan,
Some thick warm mittens for his hands,

What is perfect for a snowman?
Some buttons for eyes,
A stripy tie,

What is perfect for a snowman?
An orange carrot for a nose,
Maybe he just needs to strike a pose?

What is perfect for a snowman?
A cane,
An umbrella for rain,
Or maybe…
Just maybe,
All we need is a…
Hat,
A scarf,
Some sticks,
And twigs,
Some rocks,
A carrot,
Pebbles,
And buttons – that is it!
This is a perfect snowman!

The Other Side

by Harshita Das aged 12

A place where lead turns gold
And the grass is always greener
Just at the tip of my fingers
And always untouchable

The keys to the brain, are in the abyss
The secret to unlocking potential
Yet we strive to pick the lock
For life stands behind a locked door

On the other side, there lies Truth
Truth of Life, True Potential
To pass, you must pay a price
And we do, on the door of death

Perfect for a Snowman

The snow lay still,
A crunch as you step,
Perfect for snowmen or even snow pets,
You’d collect twigs,
buttons for eyes,
And not forgetting the carrot – you know why!
You’d roll up the snow for hours on end,
And then to perfect your snowman,
An old hat from dad,
Then you add a scarf,
Some gloves and…
Hair!…
Of course you have got to add your own touch!

The Magic of the Reindeer

Flying through the night sky,
Creating silhouettes on the moon,
Jingle bells ring as their feet move,
Carefully but speedily they travel around,
Making the least of sound – you could hear a pin fall to the ground,
As Rudolf’s nose lights up the way,
The reindeer guides Santa on his way!

Light and Dark

1
by Cassidy Akinsola aged 11

The night is dark, mischievous, silent
The light is bright, sensitive, kind,
Together they clash, they don’t work together
They are enemies, they are nemesis, they can’t work together,
But so exceptions can be made,
there are two kinds of people in the world,
the ones that rebel and refuse
and the ones that accept and help.
Everyone chooses a side.
The Dark and The Light.
The dark is a mist it can’t be captured.
The light is a stem bright and hot, it can’t be captured.
Though they have their similarities
they will never work together,
light is praised,
the dark is in a dry vale
It can never be healed.

The Travel Unicorn

My unicorn takes me high and low
so I give her a bow
Her horn is so shiny
I don’t realise it’s tiny
She is so furry
I want it curly

My Friend

by Mayuri aged 9

As I wake up and I look out of my window
I see a land full of snow just for me,
I get out of bed and go outside
because nobody can stop me,
I can feel the cold snow underneath my breath,
I don’t care if I get a cold
because the cold is my friend.

Adaba

It perches on a branch of the bitter leaf tree behind my home.

Oh! What delight I find in the delectable disposition of this gentle angel.

It wakes me with a gentle coo at dawn after a weary night.

It stares innocently at me as if it can tell my thoughts.

Oh!! I cannot envisage a morn’ without its happy chirping gearing up for a new day.

Adaba! The brown and grey feathered bird erases my tears and fills my heart with ecstasy.

The voices of sirens in the desert can’t compare to it’s soulful melody which I’ll always revel in.

My Jewel

While wondering how to describe an angel,
There came before me an amazing jewel,
Whose beauty glows as she walks elegantly,
Her astonishing eyes stares invitingly.

Behold the charming charm of a childish smile,
Drawn across her lips in a dazzling style,
Pink and tender, filled with life,
All can’t but gaze at her angelic display.

A glimpse then a stare, I got drunk,
It’s just my luck your lips were made to mock,
So intoxicating a being, so refreshing,
Indeed, she is the star that glows the brightest.

The Night Before Christmas

There was one night
The wind was cloudy tidy
It was called
The Night Before Christmas
The night when all the monsters
would come out to eat
play and hide
