Christmas Cheer

2
by Elsie aged 13

Zero degrees,
Christmas trees,
Noses red from the freezing breeze,
Santa calling,
Children snoring,
Stockings being opened on Christmas morning,
Sheets of snow,
Christmas lights glow,
Reindeer gazing at houses below,
Christmas cheer,
The jingle of reindeer,
Santa Claus is on his way!
In his magical sleigh.

My Friends

Judgemental Jeff juggles jiggly jelly.
Talented Toby teaches tigers to talk.
Hairy Harry handles hungry horses’ hooves.
Elegant Eric excavates elephants’ earwax.
Baffles Benjamin blows bagpipes badly.

Far From Hope

1
by Fathima Muneer

I wake up not seeing beautiful gardens
Nor do I smell the sent of nature
Nor do I hear the song of birds

All I can see are the vulture-minded soldiers
People being killed day by day
Children crying helplessly
And all I can do is wait for hope

All I can smell is the blood of victims
The smell of burning bombs
Being thrown here and there
And all I can do is wait for hope

All I hear are the crying sounds of innocence
The powerful shooting of sirens
The roaring laughter of the soldiers
And all I can do is wait for hope

Here I sit in a small hut
In the midst of a battleground
Waiting for a new dawn of hope
A stop to this unstoppable war

All you wish is for luxury
But all I need
Is a night of peaceful sleep

A day when I can see beautiful gardens
A day when I can smell the scent of nature
A day when I can hear the song of birds
But alas! I am far from hope.

Shadows of Happiness

1
by Deidra aged 16

Consider a broken heart without
A fairy-tale. Without scars from the past.
Without roaring whispers of deep regret.
Life’s dark touch gives nightmares to fleeting souls.
No fading promises nor memories
Of spinning with no balance. No falling
For the shy eyes of a silent stranger.
Hopeless dreamers dance under starry nights,
Waiting for stardust to open their eyes.
But like fallen petals their light will fade.
Leaving one with no memory of light.
Reminded by the steady flow of time.
Darkness follows everything bright.
Broken hearts are caused by happy endings.

Extravagance

2
by Fatima Ali Khan aged 11

Spend all your riches
Act like witches

Without a care
You give a stare

Buy all the clothes you want
Don’t worry it will haunt

Rags and riches
All the snitches

Spend all your gold
Act all bold

You’ve got your diamond rings
But no feelings

Enjoy it all
The ball will fall

Behold

by Fatima Ali Khan aged 11

Behold the Queen’s coronation
It’s a very special occasion

The palace bells ringing
The choir is singing

The kingdom decorated with flowers
The throne has its powers

Behold the Queen’s luxurious gown
With all the jesters and all the clowns

Acceptance

2
by Fatima Ali Khan aged 11

We all may be different but through our thick and thin
We all are the same
Our veins hold the same blood
Our hearts pump the same love
We can thrive
If we forgo our differences
The only way to peace
Is if we love and respect our differences
So let’s join hands and hearts
Let’s accept our differences and belong as one.

Rain

Rain, Rain,
It’s such a shame,
Your soothing noise in my brain,
But when slugs and snails come it’s so lame,
You get yourself lots of fame.

Drip, Drop,
Thank god you’re here so I can flop,
You’re so cold,
But you’re like gold,
To plants you’re food,
But just right to fit my mood.

Splish, Splash,
Your droplets make a rainbow flash,
Not the right time to make it snow,
But right to make the rivers flow!
