Me

Me, I rule
She does not rule
I don’t care
I am now free

Friends

by Telta Delta aged 6

I love my friends as they are
and they love chocolate bars
My friends are quirky like jerky
and funny like a bunny
I am lucky to have my friends
as I go around some bends

Beach Race

by Sally aged 12

I love the feel of sand on my feet
and my brother I can beat
as I race across the beach
as I run though the water
my mum yells,” That’s my daughter”
I see the finish line and I try to go fast
I I knew I could win right from the start

First Love

I look at him
I smiled at him
He was sitting all so dim
he looked so peaceful
He looked so mindful
And that’s the way it can be

A Promise to Oneself

0
by Harshita Das

Promises are too easily breakable
Strung together only by the desire to be trusted
Words held up by the vigilant watch of others
And by flimsy human pride

Cheating is breaking a promise to yourself, they say
But what are my promises really worth to me?
Promises which aren’t scrutinized by anybody
Promises which when broken, don’t cause pain to others
Pride is only held when there are others to judge you
But when the only judge is yourself, there is little you can do
Justifications, justifications, justifications;
All pile up, chipping away at self-esteem
Until your own word means nothing to you anymore

The Lakes

by Lyra Zborowski aged 10

I am in the Lakes
Everything is so beautiful,
Away from all the city life.

The breeze runs through my hair,
And I breathe in the fresh air,
So different to the oily smell in my own home.

I cannot believe,
The peace here,
No rumbling of cars,
I am so happy to be here.

New Game

by Harshita Das

One death, two deaths, and then three
Until death is just a number on the screen
No permanent penalties to any mistakes
Restart, repeat and reset; Nothing’s at stake

A safe place for my heart to race,
For me to reveal my over-perfectionist face
Sometimes, when I sit fuming at my hundredth save-file
I wish that life had a respawn button

The Family of Dimensions

by Shreesham Pandey

Plane – it holds all shapes,
all flat;
It cannot hold the height,
not even depth.

3D – is when you add that more;
the more of depth or height.
It holds our modulated world we see
and makes general life qualified.

Multi-dimensions – it’s all crazy;
it’s a bit more complicated.
We can think of them as the bin,
full of unseen-ever-entangled layers.

Back to School

I am very excited to go back to school,
Because I know my new teacher is very cool,
I heard she makes lessons fun,
The lessons we always do under the sun,
I can’t wait to discover all the different subjects,
and learn about the solar system and its objects,
I won’t even want to move off the class floor,
Not even to get up and open the door,
I am so excited to see my friends again,
You see, with them, my days are not plain,
My teacher being cool is not the only reason I want to go back to school,
There are many more but I did not list them all.

Back to School

It’s the end of summer, and school is about to start,
I, for sure, know the teachers will help us grow smart,
Everybody and I are excited to meet each other,
Through the school year, there are many things to discover,
We will learn about Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Romans,
At the end of this topic, we will be history masters,
I’ve heard all the lessons are made great fun,
English, maths and science are taught under the sun,
It’s the end of summer, and school is about to start,
I, for sure, know the teachers will help us grow smart,
My new teacher is there to help, just trust me,
She is kind and generous, her name is Miss Petrie,
I’m excited to spend year 5 with my classmates and you,
I can’t imagine all the merry things we could do,
It’s the end of summer, and the first school term is about to start,
I, for sure, know the teachers will help us grow smart!
