Do You Know What It Is?

2
by Kaira Thakkar aged 9

Am! Nam! Nam!
Eating cookies, drinking milk
Distributing gifts while sitting on a sleigh,
And guiding the reindeers swiftly,
Decorating Christmas trees,
With ornaments and hanging stockings,
Sitting cosily by the fire,
And drinking hot chocolate,
Eating lots of candy with our families,
Wearing a scarf and building a snowman,
That’s what Christmas is about!
Do you know what it is?
The festival is Christmas!

They Still Sang

by Jeanri Jordaan aged 10

World War 1, the battlefield burns,
yet songs of joy were sung.
We will remember that one Christmas day,
and how it all begun.

Maybe a little ray of Christmas hope was shining,
or soldiers felt the true Christmas joy.
Maybe they thought about their countries,
and thought about each and every girl and boy.

They knew they needed a break,
to all sing a Christmas song.
They needed to rejoice again,
because they hadn’t felt safe for so long.

So they all sang together,
through sadness and through pain.
They still sang together,
knowing they weren’t going to see each other again.

So here, very long after,
it’s a place we remember their name.
The battlefield looks very different,
and is not at all the same.

And now we sing,
to remember what happened that December day.
When they laughed and rejoiced,
even when the skies were grey.

My Winter’s Come

by Ksenia Chupurova aged 13

The touching winter tale’s
At long last come to my place.
The snow is everywhere,
I don’t want to avoid the nice snare.

In the morning – icy mood,
In the afternoon – being crude
Stepping on the big dropped bunch…
Do you hear that snow crunch?

In the evening – the bling blings
Covering my playground.
Please, don’t touch those things
Don’t be so frowned.

You will enjoy that beauty.
Try to memorize
Don’t be so much moody
And my winter gives to you the prize.

You’ll see how much your imagination
Can be amazed at night.
You’ll see the millions of shining stars
Twinkles, shimmers. They stun!
They will be glistening brightly
Like drops of water in the sun.

Christmas Time

by Ridan Valinurov aged 11

In winter’s chill, the world aglow,
With twinkling lights and soft, white snow.
The air is filled with joy and cheer,
As Christmas time draws ever near.

The hearth is warm, the tree stands tall,
With ornaments that shine for all.
Families gather, hearts entwined,
In love and laughter, peace we find.

The carols ring through silent nights,
As stars above shine oh so bright.
With every gift and every prayer,
We share the magic, love to spare.

So let us cherish, hand in hand,
The spirit of this wondrous land.
For Christmas brings, beyond compare,
A time of hope, a time to care.

The Joy Of Sharing

0
by Seerat Narula aged 11

On Christmas eve, so calm and bright
We share our love on this special night
The world is glowing, soft and clear
To spend both joy and cheer

May it be chocolate or just our hug
Our heart feels so snug
We laugh on every song
It’s the season to be bright and strong

The joy of sharing, pure and true,
Is felt by all, in me and you.
An easy act, by a kind word said
Can warm a heart just like the gifts we’ve spread

So this Christmas let’s spread our light
With love and joy, shining bright
For Christmas joy is found when we
Share what we have, for all to see.

Christmas Day

Christmas time is here,
So let’s sing a song of cheer.
Putting the star on the Christmas tree
With the family,
No despair here or anywhere.

Christmas Day always finds its way.
Oh, what a sight: a family with savoury delights!

A person or a woman
Same thing but different
By their genders
A person can be both
Male and female
A woman is only a female
Well, the human being
I’m talking about was a
A woman born on
August 26, 1918
An American mathematician
Her name was Katherine Johnson
She started from maths
But then geometry in math
Opened her intelligence wider
Making her an enthusiast of
Both science and math
She calculated and analyzed
The flight paths of many spacecrafts
She worked in NASA
She helped NASA
Send astronauts to the moon
And return them back to the Earth
Which is their home sweet home
Katherine overcame
Racial and gender hurdles
That helped make giant hops
For humankind
There is one unique thing about her
She was in when she was 15 only
Think about it!
She graduated with honors
At the age of 18
She taught black students Math
And broke down barriers
In a world where doors were shut
But she knocked and knocked
And then she opened them
For others to follow
Her work was invisible to most
But without her, the stars might not have aligned
For history to shine so bright
She didn’t seek fame,
She sought truth in numbers
Guiding rockets, reaching for the sky
Her legacy is not just in the equations
But in the courage to defy
She proved that a woman, a black woman,
Could write her own future
And chart a path
For generations to come
Her name, Katherine Johnson
Will echo through time forever.

The Christmas-Fox

0
by Jake L. Palmer aged 15

Under the blanket of the starry night,
Where the lambent lights glow
A fox, coated in white fur, stares into sight;
Wondering if it will snow.

Christmas time has hit the moors
Where the nights whistle like a train
And as carols linger all in the air
Christmas in the village feels tender and rare.

But as the night is cold, and the houses are warm
With all the little children tucked in bed, lost in sleep,
The fox stays up.
Where, at the crack of dawn
Dew will sprinkle like glitter on the lawn.

The Perfect Christmas

Christmas the feast day of Christ
Ringing bells, dancing elves
Reindeer carrying Santa’s sleigh
And Santa making kids’ day
Just beware to not be on the naughty list
Tasty cookies and milk
Wreaths on doors
Snowman with a carrot nose on your lawn
A big cozy jacket on with scarf and hat
Beautiful snowflakes falling from the sky
A delicious family feast
Santa coming out of your chimney
And leaving a present under the big beautiful Christmas tree
Making snow angels in the garden
Stockings on the wall
Getting cozy watching a movie like Home Alone
A decorated house
This is the Perfect Christmas
Have a merry Christmas

What a Bird Sees in a Day

0
by Veer Sorout aged 10

I am a bird flying sky high
I see helicopters and planes passing by
I swoop down low
And land in a patch of soft white snow
I see cars zooming past me
As far as one can see.
I fly up to a tree with a big log
So I can see through the fog
Now it is time to sleep
I make a small nest and step into a dream.
I wake up early in the morning and look around to see
The sun all lustrous and bright
Making everything look mellow and light
I fly over the streets
And glide over homes
Looking for seeds or water
Which humans leave outside
I finally find my destination,
A place warm and pleasant
Where I can rest,
Until winter ends
