The Boy

by Selene Malzone

The bird sings tenderly to the boy among the stars,
Who dances with demons and steals kisses from jars.
But they don’t see what’s beneath,
Beneath the lies and beneath the sheets.
He is caged by the voices screaming in his head,
And still, the boy pleads
Pleads for mercy and pleads for freedom.
But still we are blind
And still we don’t listen.
However, there comes a time
In the middle of the night when the demons go to sleep.
That’s when the boy runs, runs, runs, runs
To the forest.
But he doesn’t hide, he dances with his fears
he dances with the trees
because he is alive and that’s enough for him
Yes, he cries and yes, he’s in pain
but no, he doesn’t run away
no, he doesn’t fall to his knees without standing again
because you don’t see
he is not alone
he was never alone
the bird always behind him
when he falls the bird lifts him again
“The demons will go away,” the bird sings tenderly to the boy among stars.
“you just keep dancing.”

I was a super-hero soaring in my back-handspring.

BOOM! My round-off crashed on the floor.

My headstand accidentally pinged like a rubber band!

I saw the stressed flames dancing because it was so hot.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM went my landings!

My fantastic finish flowed perfectly.

The ribbon danced in my hands.

I was as scared as a person next to a man-eating plant.

We play in the snow.
I felt like a snow man
when it was freezing cold.

Someone tackled, me and I dived .
I dived like a swimmer
but on the grass.

We played in the rain.
When I took a throw
I felt like I was playing basketball.

The ballet dancers are twisters.

BANG! The dancers landed an Arial.

My heart was pounding to step on the stage.

The dancers went leap, leap, leap.

The dancers did delightful dances.

The dancers bounced across the room.

The dancers are like a bullet across the stage full of energy.

I felt as if I was at the Olympics playing basketball.
I was getting revenge on her as the basketball hit her face.
It was getting warmer.
Am I a 15 yr old? Felt like it.
In a heatwave in Spain, Mallorca.
A gangsta am I?
Inside a microwave oven!
Everybody loves me! They are cheering.
I then fell tripped, hit my head, felt like a bullet to the head!

Mainly boys from year 6 & year 5
“Casey Cody Alex”
lead the team to victory
Mostly we score and get to great victory in the games
but some times it doesn’t go so well
I go in goal all of the time and my fingers bend back
“It feels like a dart piercing my skin”
or it hits me in the head.

I’m like an elphant when I fall

THUD! There goes me falling

I feel like a brick when I do tricks

I get super hot when it’s sunny

I bounced, bounced and bounced

I completed a running rapid roundoff

The sun smiled at me while I did a perfect one handed cartwheel

My legs are like a cheetah running up

My football is a boss,
Smack! The ball goes right in the goal,
The ball went mad and it hit me on the nose, bad,
I was so cold I tackled the other team to warm me up,
My football went high high into the sky like a dragonfly,
The ball bounced brilliantly,
The speedy ball jumped right in my hands waiting for me to score,
The awesome boss football shined brightly like the sun.

The bat is my sword
Bang! The tennis ball makes the sound of thunder as it flies miles
I hit the ball but trip and fall
I was boiling as the sun’s rays burnt my skin
Bounce, bounce, bounce goes the ball as it hits the floor
Bowling balls to batters
The bat slaps the ball
I run like lightning around the corners

Flop! Jumping into the ocean,
The water pulled me in with its big blue hands.
I’m scared as I fall into the shark infested waters.

It was freezing like ice cubes stuck to your body.
People splash in an underwater dash!
Struggling in an ice berg,
Splash! Splash! Splash! Desperately trying to win.

Excited as I reach the final flags…
