An Open Book

by Louise aged 11

An open book, a new world,
A new perspective, beyond my eyes unfurled.

An atmosphere of fear and terror,
A story of hate and dispair,
The planes, they fly over; the pathway of destruction,
As they are lured to death’s own lair.

On the outside there’s joyfulness,
But on the inside there’s fear,
We know you tremble like many others,
But please start wrong my dear.

They call you: “Is daddy back?”
And you’ll gulp and wipe your tears,
You really want to tell them,
But you’re scared it’ll haunt their dreams.

A closed book, a lesson learnt,
It’ll change you as a person, make you realise the hurt.
