My Christmas

by Charlottei aged 10

Twinkling lights
Against the navy night sky
A robin soars heights
Singing as he flies by

Carol singers at my door
Settling snow, peaceful as a dove
Wispy snowflakes brush the floor
And crunch as feet walk above

Bitter winds and icy sludge
The river full of bubbles and foam
Frozen to the ground I can’t budge
It’s cold so I decide to head home

The warm fire
Flames crackle
I start to tire
Sleepiness I tackle

Morning is here
Early and bright
Alone I fear
I shall wait for daylight

A tree decorated top to toe
With twinkling Christmas stars
Squeaky presents hidden below
So bright you can see them from Mars!

The halls decked with holly
I’m smiling like a winner
I’m happy and jolly
But just wait for dinner

Pork and apples
Cabbage and potatoes
Mince pies and milk
My face glowing, my cheeks rose

Happy familiar people
Filled with cheer
The church bell in the steeple
Happy new year!
