Magpie

by Ella Williams aged 16

And all the meanness and
Planning and discontent
Fierce veil of China doll paint, scraped
Face scrubbed and pink like a newborn
Breathing in and out the
Sleeping hounds of fury, insecurity
Which make their home in her stomach
Fearsome fluid tangle
Silent
Hot little hands resting on thighs
Tracing a dot to dot of bruising
Like kisses
Nesting in a palace of stolen silverware
She sleeps.
