The Magic Box

by James Clinton aged 10

I will put into the box
A piece of the massive mouldy cheese of the moon
A drop of lava from the thundering Mount Vesuvius
The crashing of colossal caving crystal waves

I will put into the box
The first laugh of my cousin
The sip of the tastiest fizzy pop ever
A leaping fish from The River Medway

I will put into the box
Three violent kicks from an older sister
The last word of an ancient grandad
And the opening eyes of a baby

I will put into my box
The last ever month and a roar of a dinosaur
A boy with a walking stick
And a grandma on a skateboard

My box is fashioned from glass, diamond and platinum
With smiles on the lid and wishes in the corners
Its hinges are the spines of old books

I shall fly in my box
Over the great high skyscrapers
Then land on my soft bouncing bed
The colour of my eyes
