She stands where the city can be seen, yet not entered.
A skyline held like breath across the water.
Windows began to blind, awake one by one,
A language she almost understands.
She loves it without touching it,
Loves the way you love something,
You cannot yet afford to need.
Money was the only wall stopping her from meeting this beautiful creature.
A mystical, enchanting being known as New York.
It was a place she’d never been to,
Yet she felt like she had lived there all her life,
She sat there, having a peaceful conversation about how she longed to meet New York.
Yet she was stuck having a conversation with it from afar instead.
She had waited years to meet New York, introduce herself to New York and more.
Now that New York was in front of her, she still struggled to meet.
She began to work day and night, saving bit by bit.
Every time a day passed without meeting New York, a new candle was lit.
She longed to eat food in a fancy restaurant with a golden fork
Or see the huge digital billboards
She just had to get a little closer and enter New York.
She longed to show New York what she had.
Yet every time she got close,
She heard the heavy, rapid heartbeat of New York.
Though she had never met New York, she loved it and it just motivated her more,
She longed to break free from the jail of finance troubles,
Yet the bars kept getting stronger.
She longed to go to the places where New York smiled,
She longed to go to the places where New York was happy.
She longed to meet New York.
Yet she saw New York blink, the lights always began to blink once and then shut.
Until soon after, New York had closed its eyes and they stayed shut.
